Iconic actor Tom Wilkinson, a two-time Oscar nominee known for his role in "The Full Monty," has passed away at the age of 75. His family confirmed his sudden death at home on December 30, expressing great sadness. Wilkinson earned Academy Award nominations for "In the Bedroom" (2001) and a supporting role in "Michael Clayton" (2007). He recently reunited with "The Full Monty" co-stars in a Disney series.


Wilkinson, born in Leeds, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and amassed over 130 film and TV credits, including notable works like "Batman Begins," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," and "Shakespeare in Love." He received a Best Supporting Actor Bafta for his role in "The Full Monty."


Co-star Robert Carlyle praised Wilkinson as a "real titan of an actor," emphasizing his impact on multiple generations. George Clooney, who worked with Wilkinson in "Michael Clayton," described him as making every project and actor better, emphasizing his elegance.


Wilkinson's career spanned various genres, from the BBC adaptation of Dickens's "Martin Chuzzlewit" to the 2014 Wes Anderson film "The Grand Budapest Hotel." In 2009, he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for portraying Benjamin Franklin in the HBO series "John Adams."


A character actor, Wilkinson's contributions were recognized in 2005 when he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama. The news of his passing led to tributes from peers, including "Peaky Blinders" actor Aneurin Barnard, who bid farewell to "one of our wonderful legends."
