Taylor Swift Fan Dies Due to Heat at Rio Concert

A 23-year-old fan who fainted at a Taylor Swift concert in Rio de Janeiro in November has reportedly died due to the heat, according to post-mortem examinations cited by the Brazilian press.

Ana Clara Benevides Machado attended the first show of Swift's Eras Tour in the Brazilian city on November 17.

A heatwave raised temperatures to 39 degrees Celsius, with the "feels-like" temperature reaching 59.3C, as reported by city authorities, as per BBC.

At that time, Taylor Swift expressed being "devastated" by the fan's death.

Video footage seemed to show the singer herself affected by the high temperatures.

The artist canceled the scheduled show for the next day after the fan's death but continued with the rest of the tour.

Ana Clara Benevides Machado, a psychology student, had traveled from the city of Rondonópolis to Rio to attend the concert.

Her friend, Daniele Menin, told the news site G1 that the 23-year-old fainted during Swift's second song.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where she passed away.

According to the post-mortem report, she suffered a cardiovascular shock and lung hemorrhage, leading to sudden death.

Her father told the local press that he had no doubt Ana Clara died due to the extreme heat on that day.

Approximately 60,000 people attended the concert at the Nilton Santos Stadium in the city.

Nathalia Barbieri was one of those who braved the heat to see her favorite artist.

She told the BBC that she saw Ana Clara Benevides Machado being treated by medics after she herself was urgently taken to the first aid station after fainting due to the extreme heat and humidity.
